Sumatra Mandheling Grade 1

$17.95 lb.

The Indonesian island of Sumatra is home to one of our customer’s favorite coffees.  No other coffee has the syrupy richness, earthy notes, and smooth flavor of a fine Sumatran. Our Sumatra Mandheling Grade 1 coffee is full bodied and has an earthy aroma with notes of bakers chocolate and hints of spice and cherry. The special process of wet hulling this coffee in parchment imparts unique flavors. like hints of bright fruit and dark chocolate.  If you are looking for a low-acid coffee with bold flavor, Sumatran is a good choice.

This Sumatra Mandheling is sourced from coffee producers located near the shores of Lake Toba, formed from a supervolcano, in the province of North Sumatra on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.  Coffee in this area is grown at 1300 – 1700 meters and the soil is a volcanic loam.  Most of the producers in this area cultivate coffee on 2.5 acres of land and use their own micro-mills to depulp and dry the coffee.  These farmers collaborate with Yudi Putra, a family-owned export company, to access international coffee markets which helps to ensure greater earnings.
