Brazil Rio Brilhante Frutado
Description
From our awesome importer:
“Regional Details As the world’s largest coffee producer, Brazilian lots often come from larger estates that use highly mechanized processing strategies to manage larger volumes. Minas Gerais is the largest of the three major Brazilian growing regions with six micro-regions, which account for 50% of Brazil’s production.
Sourcing Details From this volume of coffee, we have plucked a special treat traceable to a single estate located near the town of Pantano in the Cerrado Mineiro micro-region. This particular lot comes from a 6,500 acre estate called Fazenda Rio Brilhante, which is owned and managed by Inácio Urban and his family. At first glance you may be taken aback by the sheer size of this estate, but even more impressive is that Inácio started with 50 acres of coffee and has spent the last 40 years growing to 5,000 acres of coffee cultivation. The other 1,500 acres is naturally preserved to give diversity and protection to the coffee estate. In 2020, Fazenda Rio Brilhante was awarded first place in the Ethics and Traceability Award given to farms for their commitment and development of programs to develop people, preserve the environment, and promote responsible agribusiness.
Processing & Exporting Details For the post harvest processing, the cherries are taken to the mill where carefully selected ripe cherries are washed and floated to remove damaged and less dense seeds before the drying process begins. Cherries are gently dried to reduce moisture to 11% using a combination of patio and mechanical drying techniques. Then carefully stored until it is time for milling and exporting. Preparation for export is done in partnership with Los Volcanes Coffee.”
