What’s Happening In The World Of Coffee
The coffee market has been a constantly changing system for forever, but since the pandemic those changes have become more dramatic and are happening faster. The market has been moving toward all-time highs during the last year and just recently surpassed even that. This affects everyone along the entire chain of coffee, from planting the seeds to roasting the final product.
Many factors are at play creating these vast market changes;
- Shipping – rate increases continuing since the pandemic, as well as supply chain disruptions and consolidations
- Climate – changes in weather patterns and more severe weather events are disrupting growing and harvesting as well as shipping and movement of coffee through a country, and more disease resistance are causing more crop losses
- Consumption – around the world, including in more producing countries than ever, coffee continues to become more popular increasing demand
- Coffee farmers – Farmers are facing rising production costs and in need of more sustainable pricing to maintain their livelihoods
- Business Costs – the same as all types of business out there now, the operational costs of doing business have continued to rise as well
- Speculation – market speculation can be a driver for prices to go high or low and can make it all happen very quickly. Currently we are at historically high pricing, and along with threats of possible trade war tariffs, the market is and will continue to be very volatile for the foreseeable future.
Our goal at The Kaffeeklatsch has always been to bring high quality coffees and other products to our customers. We will continue to do that, which unfortunately does mean this across-the-board price rise is necessary right now. We want to continue the work we love, while also taking care of our employees, and bringing more sustainability to the coffee arena.
At this time we do believe the market will stabilize at some point. When that will be we can’t foresee, but as soon as we can pass on savings to our customers we will! Your loyalty is so important and we are immensely grateful for all of our supporters!!
