If you haven’t been able to tell from all the signs, banners, ads, and general explosion of red/white/blue designs overtaking the South (and the entire country) this particular July is the United State’s 250th “birthday”. Happy birthday to us! We’ve squeaked into antiquity, as everyone knows a country isn’t reeeeaaally a country until it’s at least 250 years old. Like Hobbits aren’t adults until they’re 33, for example. Given that our “age of majority” starts at only 19… Tolkien probably had the right idea.
So let’s kick off this extra special July with some extra special offerings, goings-on, and all the things that try to make deep summer in Alabama palatable. “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity!” It’s both. Honestly, it’s both.
