Purple Bamboo Black

Description

Purple Bamboo Black is a relatively new tea created from an existing cultivar from Yunnan. The Zi Juan cultivar is known for its purple-tinged leaves due to the presence of anthocyanins, and is usually used for making Puer tea. In the mid-2000s, the Yunnan Tea Research Institute began working with the Zi Juan cultivar in experimental gardens in moderate- to high-rainfall areas. This included work to increase the anthocyanin production in young plants. Now, this cultivar that would usually be blended with others for Pu’er has its chance to shine on its own.

Medium bodied, velvet-y, and smooth with notes of honey, citrus, and spice along with subtle berry and floral notes.

Recommendations: Use 1 tsp. (or 2-3 grams) of leaves per 6 oz. of water; heat fresh water to 212°F (rolling boil); steep for 3 minutes.
