One of these days -hopefully during this month- those darn leaves will start changing, and when it cools down it’ll stay that way! Pumpkin patches will open, hayrides will blow hay dust in your face and eyes, corn mazes will crop up (aaahaha ‘crop’, get it?) out of nowhere and you’ll get the urge to find a haunted house or five. Until then, take heart in the fact that our coffee is delicious, whether hot or iced.
Coffee of the Month: Columbia Huila Women’s Coffee
Great aroma with notes of cocoa, dark cherry, and baking spices. Solid medium body in the cup, notes of rich dark chocolate, caramel, and roasted nuts are balanced by hints of apple and peach.
Our new Colombia Huila Women’s Coffee is produced by a group of 53 women organized around the Asociación De Productoras Agricultores Agrícolas De Timana (ASPROTIMANA), with farms around Timaná in the department of Huila, Colombia. ASPROTIMANA has been working directly with women producers to establish coffee production from farms owned and managed by women. With the support of Servicio Nacional de Aprendizaje (SENA), this group of women have established their skills to process specialty coffee using their own micro-mills.
Tea of the Month: Green Silk Maofeng
Luscious green maofeng with notes of sweet lemon, honeydew melon, and cucumber with a floral finish.
In traditional Chinese and Indian medicine, practitioners have used green tea as a stimulant, diuretic, digestion aid and astringent. Studies show that green tea has the ability to regulate blood glucose, enhance mental performance, reduce inflammation, improve bone mineral density and lower risk of heart disease. It is a rich source of the polyphenol EGCG, shown to provide protection against cancer, particularly colon, lung and skin cancers.
A Seasonal PSA
As we get closer and closer to the collection of holidays that make up the fall and winter season, we do want to take this time to touch on a couple things that hopefully will ensure no one goes without their coffee over the various breaks, travel, etc.
Ordering Ahead Of Time
We’ve all been there, you wake up and shuffle blearily over to your coffee creation station only to see the worst sight ever: an empty container where your coffee should be. SHOCK. DISMAY. HORROR.
No one knows more than you do how quickly you go through your coffee. Gift ‘Future You’ the greatest thing ever and order your restock at least 3-4 days before you are going to run out. Whether you set it for pickup or delivery, ‘Future You’ will shed a single shining tear of gratitude that fateful morning as they reach for the container, heart ready to drop and instead lifted with appreciation. “Thanks, Past Me. You remembered.”
“Are You Gonna Be Open -insert time frame here-?”
We try to stay open as long as possible to give everyone time to come get their coffee, tea, and restock accessories before a holiday closure. We will have signs posted at least the entire week before a closure, if not a little longer, to let folks know exactly when and for how long we will be closed. These signs can be found on the front store and at the register, and the longer closure of post-Christmas through the new year can also be found on the main page of our website.
Higher Quantities and Larger Orders:
The sooner, the better. No really, that’s the whole thing. The closer we get to the holidays, the larger orders tend to get as people plan on gifting pounds of coffee to various loved ones and/or coworkers, employees, that one neighbor down the street that keeps letting you know when your dog escaped your yard. (Thanks, Mike!) We love this! Gift us everywhere and to everyone, hide samplers under seats and in jacket hoods, but just remember: If you know you’re going to need 10 lbs of Golden Pecan, 6 lbs of Chocolate Almond and 14 Herbal Tea Samplers by December 10th, please order well ahead of December 9th. We’re talking somewhere around Thanksgiving or so, you know? The sooner you can let us know and get that order down on paper, the happier everyone is gonna be. Especially the pecans, they love a good party.
