Seasons’ changes here in Huntsville means crazy weather, from warm to cold to wet to…well more of all 3. But one thing remains constant here at The Kaffeeklatsch: freshly roasting beans and warm cups of coffee!

A new month means a new coffee and tea are being featured! March’s featured flavors are:

Coffee Of The Month: Caesar’s Choice Much like the senators slashing Caesar, we are giving customers the power to wield one knife dollar off their choice of one Single Origin, regular or decaffeinated. For in-store purchases just let your bean merchant know which coffee you’ve chosen (Jamaica Blue not applicable) and for online orders there is a coupon code under Coffee of the Month on our front page, copy and use at checkout. Beware the Ides of March no more!

Tea Of The Month: Honeydew Mint

A delightfully refreshing blend of fruits, blossoms, and herbs including melon and peppermint. Brewing tips for this particular tea can be found on the tea’s page under “Herbal Tea”. Naturally caffeine-free.

March Featured Brew Style: Looking for a different way to brew that delicious cup? Check out this month’s featured brewing style, the mighty Pour-Over , with various types available for purchase in our lobby! A quick and easy way to make a single mug of coffee, just set the pour-over cone over your cup of choice, scoop your grounds into the cone (paper filter or reusable) and slowly pour hot water over the grounds. Within 2-3 minutes you’ll have hot and delicious coffee ready to go! If you’re looking for a gift for the pour-over lover in your life, check out our locally made pottery pour-overs, made by the talented Rebecca Palacio at Palacio Pottery Lab right here in Huntsville.

A Note on Store Closures:

Business Hours: We close every week on Sundays and Mondays to give the roaster and staff a well-earned rest, meaning any emails or voicemails left on Saturday or during those closed days will not be seen or responded to until we open for the week on Tuesday. We ask that patience be extended those first 2 hours following the store’s open as we listen/read to everything and catalog what needs to be done in order to respond promptly and with as much information as we can.

St Patrick’s Day: There are few things that pull us away from our beloved roaster, but one such occasion is coming up this month. The annual St Patrick’s Day parade that happens through the streets of downtown Huntsville is a fantastic musical spectacle, one that we take as an opportunity to give the roaster a rest and party hard with the rest of the parade watchers! (If ‘party hard’ means a looong nap followed by delicious Irish food) We will be closed the day of the parade March 15th, and will be back to regular store hours Tuesday March 18th.

48th Annual Huntsville St Patrick’s Day Parade: Saturday, March 15th starting @ 11am

“Downtown Huntsville will transform into a sea of green for the 47th Annual Ellen McAnelly Memorial St. Patrick’s Day Parade this Saturday, March 15. Organized by the Irish Society of North Alabama, this event will kick off at 11 a.m. and will feature over 90 groups.”

5th Annual Women’s Expo: March 27th-30th @ VBC South Hall

“The Women’s Expo HSV is an empowering annual event dedicated to bringing women of all backgrounds together to connect, learn, and celebrate each other’s journeys. Hosted in Huntsville, Alabama, the Expo offers a welcoming space where attendees can discover new ideas, gain valuable insights, and take part in activities designed to support both personal and professional growth.”

Reminders:

• We will no longer answer the store phone on Saturdays
• Call-In pick-up orders must be received by 1:00pm on Friday for a Saturday pick-up
• Online pick-up orders received by 11:00am Saturday are guaranteed for Saturday pick-up
• Online pick-up orders after 11:00am are not guaranteed to be completed on Saturday
• Shipping orders received on Saturday will continue to ship the following week
• Coffee availability on Saturdays is first come, first serve unless you have pre-ordered following the guidelines listed above

Updates:

Some of our prices for our coffee and merchandise have changed, including some increases. We apologize for this necessity but as prices rise for obtaining coffee we unfortunately must also raise prices to reflect this. We always strive to keep our coffee and other items as fairly priced as we can, and appreciate your understanding in this.

Sulawesi – Robust aroma with notes of rich dark chocolate, spice cake, earthiness, and hints of fruity jam. Great heavy body. Nuances of dark chocolate, spice, and earthiness, with hints of plum and cherry. Bold and interesting! — Giling Basah/Wet Hulled Process

Yirgacheffe – Great bright aroma with lots of sweet berry nuances, hints of herbs and spices, and caramelized sugar. Good full body. Notes of strawberry, sweet mixed berries, lemon, lemongrass along with hints of vanilla and caramelized sugar. Nicely tangy! — Certified Organic, “Natural”/Dry Process

Papua New Guinea Nebilyer Valley – Nice rich aroma with notes of dark chocolate, almonds, and hints of spices. Smooth and syrupy full body. Nuances of dark chocolate, spices, and very subtle almond and cherry. Rich and delicious!

Sumatra Kerinci Gunung Tujuh – Heavy aroma with nuances of baker’s chocolate, earthiness, and a hint of stone fruit. Full, smooth body. Notes of baker’s and semi-sweet chocolates, earthiness, along with subtle plum, and roasted chestnuts. — Giling Basah/Wet Hulled Process

Yemen – Intriguing aroma with nuances of dark fruits, super dark chocolate, and earthiness. Heavy but smooth body. Nuances of dark chocolate and unsweetened cocoa powder, earthiness, dark cherry, elderberry, and red wine. Rich and deep! — “Natural”/Dry Process

Just So You Know(s):

Monthly Mail Order: Tired of forgetting to order in time before you run out? Sign up for our Monthly Mail Order! Mailed out on the first consecutive Tuesday or Wednesday of the month, we will package and either ship or set for pick-up whatever coffee you sign up to purchase. This can be whatever the Coffee Of The Month is, a preset selection such as Brazil or Bavarian Chocolate, or you can let us know your favorites and let us choose! Feel free to call to sign up or speak to a bean merchant on your next visit.

If you have decided to take up roasting your own coffee as a New Year’s resolution, we do have some of our unroasted, green coffee for sale. However, not all coffees are available for green bean purchase, and we ask that you come in to discuss it in person with one of our roasters rather than call the store. The discount for purchase is as follows:

1-4lbs = 20% off retail price, 5+ lbs of one type = 40% off retail price

Don’t forget we have a reusable container discount! It is 2.5% off price (covering the price of the store bag) Your container must have a lid or otherwise be able to be closed securely, and clean. We have cotton bags available for purchase if you have forgotten your container at home, but please keep in mind we will only put whole bean coffee in these.

We have available for purchase black drip coffee to go, only $3 a cup, and the large burlap bags that our green coffee arrives in, $1 per bag.

We are so thankful to still be nestled in the same great storefront, in the same wonderful city, nearly 50 years later. Not many businesses can say they’ve been able to provide continuous service with their original ownership, and we know so much of that is due to our amazing customers. Give yourselves some much deserved back pats! Whether you’ve just come across us while walking downtown (that delicious roasting scent lures many) or you found us years ago, keep coming back and recommending us to others, it’s because of you that we get to do what we love every day. THANK YOU! We look forward to our Golden Anniversary next year, and dare we say 50 more? The world may change, but the need for coffee is forever.

We are in our final work days of 2024, and it’s hard to believe how fast it has gone! We’ve had quite a busy year with many changes, which we’ll tell you all about in the new year.

**Edit-We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the volume of pre-orders and walk-ins this last week. We are so thankful for the support!! But, we are unable to keep up our full coffee menu, so you will see limited items on the website for now until we close. We will have our full selection of coffees available when we come back in January!** We still have plenty of coffees, teas, and accessories for your final week of gift shopping. We just received our last coffee bean delivery, bringing regular favorites, Brazil, Colombia, and Yemen back to the menu, along with some old favorites we haven’t carried the last few years, Bali and Sulawesi.

Don’t forget that the store will be closed from Christmas day through January 6th for our winter break. We’ll return on Tuesday January 7th to regular business hours. Please note that any orders placed during this time will ship when the store re-opens.

The Kaffeeklatsch has seen a lot of changes through our 48 years of business! As the years pass our customer base continues to grow and change in different ways. Sometimes a point is reached where we need to make a change to how we function and we’ve reached one of those points now.

Our “little” city of Huntsville has also been growing and changing a lot over the past several years. We have continued to gain new customers, as well as many more visitors coming through on their travels. Walk-in customers, old and new, on Saturdays have reached a level we have not experienced before, so we will be changing the availability of ordering on Saturday.

Starting on Saturday August 10th the following changes will be made:

We had an excellent 2023 and start to 2024, gaining lots of new customers along with our faithful regulars. We couldn’t be more honored and happy with the support that you all give us!

That being said, some of you may have noticed that our coffee selection is a little slimmer than usual right now. The fact is we went through our stock of some coffees quicker than expected. But please no fear, we will have your favorites back in stock as soon as we can! If you didn’t know, when we purchase coffee we have to try to buy enough to last until the harvest season the next year. So we’ll probably be buying a bit more of some than we used to!

Over the last week or so we have sampled, and approved some Costa Rica Monte Crisol, Ethiopia Harrar, Guatemala, Jamaica Blue Mountain, and Kenya. We should have samples from Mexico arrive very soon as well. Once we have those we’ll be able to get a coffee shipment to the store to replenish our stock. Coming up over the next couple months will also be samples from Brazil, Costa Rica (Natural), Honduras, Sumatra, and Yemen.

Our featured coffee this month is the WLRH Morning Blend, on sale for $16.95 per pound. This is a very pleasant blend of Brazil, Colombia, and Peru coffees that we created for them several years ago. We also have some personal blends that different WLRH staff created after doing a tasting with us. WLRH is a great entity to have in our community and we are proud to support them!

Kaffeeklatsch branded mugs will be back in stock in a few weeks. We’ll have one new style available so look out for those soon.

We are continuing to work on our online checkout process to make improvements. We really appreciate your patience as we make changes and please let us know if you have any questions! In the meantime, please note:

• Options for “Shipping” or “Pick up in store” will only show up once you have entered an address
• The automatic default is “Shipping” so you must switch to “Pick up in store” if that is your preference
• These options show up underneath the “Subtotal” in the “Your Order” section on the right side of the page as shown in the picture below
